Hello, my name is Duncan Brown, an English Communication Facilitator.
Learn more about me at the facilitator page.
Based in Sano, I help learners develop their English skills confidently and naturally.
Through guidance at Brown’s English Language School (BELS), students get practical experience in English communication.
I have bad memories of learning different languages at school, I didn't want to learn French nor German but I had to. Although I cannot communicate in either language, I can remember a little vocabulary and grammar points. Listening to French news on TV I can recognise a few words and sometimes get the gist of what is being said.
One of the good things about Japanese adults learning English is that they started to learn it at school. One of the bad things about Japanese adults learning English is that they started to learn it at school. I’m only repeating back what has been told to me and Masami from our students’ experiences.
A good thing about learning English at school is that even as an adult you do remember some vocabulary and grammar. Japanese people sometimes speak to me in English even though they haven’t studied it since school. As you HAD to study English for exams at school, as an adult it will be easier to start learning it again.
The bad thing about learning English at school is that you probably didn’t have a good experience! You HAD to learn a second language to pass an exam and you had no choice in what to learn nor the speed of the lesson. After an experience like that, you may feel that English isn’t a subject for you.
Of course, as an adult it is usually a choice to learn English, for some it can be related to work, though. Either way, it is a different experience than at school. Our students have told us our lessons are interesting, useful and enjoyable, which is really nice to hear.
Our students have said they have learnt things about the English language that is not taught in schools, too. Our focus is on listening to our students needs, assess their level, and help develop their English communication skills. Theory and practice together to acquire the language for communication.
We don’t give scores or exams to our students, just practical lessons and feedback to help improve and understand their English.
Brown’s English Language School (BELS) helps you build the English skills you need in a way that suits you best.
